Pension insurance for grant recipients

As of the beginnig of 2009, the Farmers' Social Insurance Institution Mela has been responsible for statutory pension insurance for grant or scholarship recipients.

According to the Farmers' Pension Act (Maatalousyrittäjien eläkelaki), all grant and scholarship recipients living in Finland who have been awarded a grant in Finland in 2009 or after shall be covered by insurance. The grant or scholarship must be awarded for a minimum of four months of work in Finland and in the amount of at least EUR 1 274,21, which corresponds to an annual earnings of EUR 3 822,63  (2017 level).

 

Once the grant recipient has received a grant that fulfils the above insurance criteria and has begun working, he or she is responsible for obtaining the statutory insurance from the Farmers' Social Insurance Institution Mela. Such insurance must be requested within three months of undertaking grant-related work.
